Globe Success at The Ball Cup Regatta

Globe juniors were in winning form again at the Ball Cup Regatta on Sunday 9th May. A host of wins and some great performances from new recruits made an enjoyable days rowing at Dorney lake. Special thanks to Alan Wylie and Terry Flinn for their help, and to to all the parents, grandparents and friends for their support.

“It is a pleasure to be associated with the Juniors who were a credit to Globe RC. All the hard training and coaching has certainly paid off, and lets hope it continues, which I am sure it will.”  Peter Smith – Junior Coordinator

Winners and competitors at the ball Cup

Gold WJ16 1x Isobel Turner      Globe RC
The heat was won against some stiff competition with Isobel sculling a perfectly paced race, she then went on to win the final easily controlling her own race plan from the start as she sculled her way through the field to finish a well deserved first.

Gold       WJ16 2x Isobel Turner /Naomi Curthoys    Globe RC / RDRC
With Isobel stroking the girls won both the heats and the final leading the field all the way to finish easily.

Silver WJ14 1x     Sorcha Liston-Smith      Globe RC
Sorcha rowed a very tactical heat rowing in a comfortable 2nd, into the final it was neck and neck over the whole course with Sorcha being beaten by a verdict of two feet by gold medal winner, once again some brilliant sculling that we have come to expect from Sorcha.

Silver WJ14 4x+
Str -Alicia Buckley, 3- Sophie Pritchard, 2- Molly Atkinson, bow -Alice Dwyer
cox William French

The girls avenged their defeat by Tideway Scullers School at Chiswick by beating TSS in the heat and going through to the final, they sculled a great final and in a very close finish had to settle for the silver place. Well done to William French who, despite being very new to rowing, coxed a very good race.

Silver J13 1x   Gregory Blanchard
Greg is another new member of Globes junior squad and despite his very few outings sculled a brilliant race for Globe to collect the silverware for a well deserved second place.

The WJ14 quad split into two doubles of Sophie/Alice and Molly/Alicia and despite some splendid sculling did not make the finals. J15 1x Jack Davidson sculled extremely well earning his final place and once again gave his all in the final but sculled in fifth after a terrific effort.

We welcome our new members to the junior squad, James French, his brother William, and Greg Blanchard.  William also sculled in J13 1x after coxing the quad. James sculled the J15 1x and also doubled up with Jack for J15 2x. James French and Greg Blanchard also sculled very well in the J13 2x and placed 4th of 6 in the heat, failing to make the final but a good effort for very inexperienced scullers. We have high hopes for the future with these two young men.

The junior squad are developing well under the guidance of Pete Smith and Maurice Coughlan who should both be proud of the efforts and progress made by the youngsters carrying the Globe banner.
