Globe success at Peterborough Regatta

Congratulations to Globe Junior Sophie Pritchard for her first win in WJ14 1x. Having mainly raced in the successful WJ14 Quad, this was Sophie’s first open event in a single.

“The 1st heat of Saturdays 1000m event saw Sophie leading the field by 2 lengths at the 500m mark, she faded in the second 500m but rowed in second behind a much more experienced girl from St Ives RC. This earned Sophie a place in the final which was almost a repeat of the heat with Sophie two lengths up at the half way mark but fading in the second half to row in fourth. Despite her disappointment she still showed a magnificent effort for her debut in a single.

Sundays 500 metre race, this time a straight final saw Sophie lining up with two of the previous days competitors plus a forth from Derby RC. Although Sophie was a little apprehensive that two of the girls had bested her over 1000m she came out and lead from start to Finish winning by 3&1/2 lengths from the second placed girl. Well done to Sophie for a brilliant win, thanks to Pete Smith, Maurice and the coaching team for the coaching and encouragement that is making Globes Juniors a force to be reckoned with on the regatta scene.”
