We offer organised rowing from two sites - a 12km stretch of the River Thames from Babu Beach, Greenwich and a 2km regatta training course from the Royal Albert Docks, Newham.
We enable our coaches to develop all types of crews and provide a professional coaches and coxing development training programme.

We work with all types of boats, different age groups with members who have been rowing for a few months and members who have rowed for decades. We look forward to having a conversation with you.

SUMMER REGATTA & HEAD RACES
NATIONAL SCHOOLS'
HENLEY QUALIFIERS
Race with the blades of Team Globe and access a vibrant annual racing calendar. Globe competes in both regatta season side-by-side sprint racing and in head race endurance time trial competitions. Join our Open, Womens, Junior, Masters or Mixed race training in all crew configurations from coxed eights to single sculls.
> Young athletes between 12 and 18 years train all year round with a competitive programme of training weekdays and weekends with dedicated professional coaching. Our ultimate annual goal for our Juniors is entries in the National Schools' Regatta and British Junior Championships.
> Our summer regatta season is May to September - a series of annual local race entries include Putney Town (May), Metropolitan (Jun), Marlow (Jun), Henley Women's (Jul), Henley Royal (Jul), Kingston (Jul), St Neots (Jul), Peterborough, (Jun & Aug), Sudbury (Aug), Lea (May & Sept) and Cambridge (Sept) regattas. Whether you are looking for performance training or summer pot hunting we can cater to your goals.
> Our winter head season is September to April - a series of annual local race entries including Vesta Scullers Head (Sept), Maidstone Head (Sept), Cambridge Head (Oct), Pairs Head (Oct), Docklands Head (Nov), Fours Head (Nov), Vets Head (Nov), Quintin Head (Jan), Greenwich Head (Feb), Hammersmith Head (Feb), Women's Head of The River Race (Mar) and Head of The River Race (Mar).
We understand the need for flexibility and place effort into providing an experience for individuals at different stages of life, whether a recent graduate, parent or guardian, retiree, student or city professional we aim to create Club athletes at all aspirational levels of training & fitness.
We ask our members to commit to their intention twice a year (start of summer and winter seasons). You can jump into join the squad training at any time of the year.
We offer dedicated professional Coaches and a training plan that will improve your skills and fitness for racing. With two training sites we can cater to practice endurance training on the Tideway and regatta training at the Royal Docks. Why race with anyone else?
Globe Juniors have a powerful track record of winning or placing well in national and international races. The present day achievements of our Junior alumni community represents the success and legacy of training Junior rowers at Globe.
Team Globe focuses on an annual calendar of high profile races for Juniors. Our biggest goals for our young athletes in the year are National Schools' Regatta (May) and British Championships (July).
Other annual race entries can include Peterborough Junior Regatta (June and August), Cambridge Regatta (September), Scullers Head (September), Maidstone Head (September), Pairs Head (October), Docklands Head (November) and Fours Head (November).
Globe's primary racing goal is simple - Design the fastest crews.
Our aim is to create high calibre race entries at Henley Women's Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.
We have a formula of five approaches combined to form successful entries:
> A training plan that delivers the strength, fitness and agility required of a rower's body & mind to race at national championships, competing with the fastest national and international crews.
> Strong dedicated leadership coaching by our Director of Rowing & team of Assistant Coaches. A track record that builds the individual athlete and the crews, on and off the water.
> A group of committed squad members accountable to a time intensive and internally competitive training programme, committing the weekly hours to regular water/land and physical/mental race training.
> Support & encouragement to develop individual skills in single sculling, creating maximum squad training opportunities and enhancing crew confidence.
> Club-wide membership support for these ventures, dedicated equipment and a training environment dedicated to regatta style race practice.
Our Racing Squad at this performance level is a selective but not exclusive training programme. If you have the capability in skill to row and an aspiration to achieve sub-7 minutes for men and sub-8 minutes for women on a 2k race piece on the ergo, accessing this programme is possible. All our members with intentions to race will race, however not all our members will be able to race on our Henley Qualifiers training pathway. As an expensive training pathway, our Coaches will only enter crews with the high-potential for qualifying for Henley. Members following this training programme have found themselves winning pots in the summer in non-Henley qualifying races.

JOIN THE GLOBE COMMUNITY
Globe is a large sociable network of interesting people based across London connecting through the sport of rowing.
We have a community dedicated to being open, friendly & inclusive, supporting each other with flexible water user experiences. If you are looking for regular, easy-going and fun workouts, Team Globe is the Club to join.
We have three clear pathways to access recreation with Globe:
> We row on a vastly interesting stretch of the Tideway. Enjoy organised coached sessions in Quads, Fours and Eights while enjoying a workout without the pressure of committing to a racing goal. Work on your rowing skills in a safe and comfortable environment.
> Receive light-touch support using Club equipment by developing your knowledge and skill to workout independently on the water in small groups separate to captain organised sessions. Join and follow our rower safety programme to become an approved steerer to access our buddy system using singles, doubles & quads for early morning rowing on the historic River Thames.
> We encourage members to continue connecting with the Club even after rowing has finished. We offer social activities and encourage an environment to stay motivated in working out as you get older or busier with working life. This looks like social events such as brunches and club social nights. We also offer access to a Club Gym in Greenwich as well as a Clubhouse.
Due to the types of waters we row on, we ensure we are safe in our approach to steering and single sculling for recreation. Members go through an accreditation process before they can access Club equipment. Once a member is accredited to navigate the Tideway, individuals can book Club equipment for use with light-touch support. For experienced rowers, we understand the need for flexibility and work hard to provide an experience for individuals at different stages of life - parent or guardian, retiree, postgraduate student or city professional - once we've assessed you have the skill and confidence to row and understand the power of the river, we encourage you to scull for pleasure, a workout and continue your life-long journey of developing understanding of the skills to row efficiently.

Start a passion in the sport of rowing. Look like the rowers in our video practicing in the Royal Docks Watersports Centre tank - an artificial water environment to practice rowing skills.
We offer separate Learn To Row (LTR) courses for under 18s and adults.
> A Globe Juniors learn-to-row course is free. We offer a four week course with the option to join Globe's Junior training squad upon completion. Globe works with London Youth Rowing (LYR). We can provide the pathway for young people to further their journey from LYR into competitive training.
> A Globe Adult learn-to-row course is £250 for a five week course (two hours on a Sunday) with the option to join the Globe adult development squad upon completion.
The five weeks includes a British Rowing qualified Coach and a number of welcoming Club volunteers. Once completed, a LTR Graduate can join Globe through our Adult Development training programme. We mainly offer a sculling to sweep transition, teaching skills in sculling initially followed by sweep experience.
We also work with TopRow on providing opportunities for adults to learn rowing skills.
Our Development Squad is available to shape the knowledge of our members in how to become the strongest and fitness rowers in their life-long love of the sport.
Once a member, we believe it is important for our novice members to learn the basics first, as well as teach our prospective racing members what it takes to train at the highest level for water sessions.
We offer a land training programme that gives you experience and guidance on how to train on an erg.
Learn how to PB (Personal Best) on the erg for competing against those other rowers for seats.
Don't worry, as a first time rower doing land training we'll start you off with a 500m sprint.
Injury prevention is a vital part of participating in a sport.
It is vital to learn a strength & conditioning programme as well as mobility & stretching routines to achieve the physical and mental state required to race safely.
Learn how to access crew training by developing your skills to a level that enables you to row in all types of boats and listen to coaches with focus.
> Water sessions - we create the scenarios to train you to compete with many race plans through practicing the mistakes (such as race starts) - the what ifs - and then discuss these with the coaching team.
> Land sessions - we give you a plan to follow that takes you through the rigorous practice you need to build you mental and physical endurance and pace needed to be able to react in a race and use the tank fully when it counts in a race.
TAKE A LOOK AT OUR NAVIGATION ON AN EBB TIDE
Globe aims to encourage and actively train as many Approved Steerers as possible. We wish to make our book allocation and training sessions as flexible as possible. To make the easy lineups possible we organise our rowers into positions to steer and cox under guidance. This approach creates a community that is confident in rowing on the tideway and learning sessions in a crew.
To ensure the standard of steering on the Tideway is good, we ask members to complete a rower safety programme. The steering certificate has five levels and is split into three skills – coxing, sculling (1x and 2x) and foot steering (4x, 2-, 4-) – which are tested separately, so reaching Level 3 as a cox does not necessarily mean you are of Level 3 standard in a scull, and vice-versa.
We also train and fund launch driving certificates. Your level dictates what conditions you can go out in, and what level of coaching you need in those conditions.
Accreditation system to single - use equipment and navigate tideway independently. Accredited by paid coaches.

Globe's Coaches Hub
BECOME A COACH
Joining Globe gives you access to a regular series of weekly coached sessions at different levels of ability, fitness and commitment. We offer coaching for individuals and crews in learning basic rowing skills, creating improvements & building confidence while rowing for recreation and achieving fitness goals to race at regional and national competitions.
Under our Director of Rowing, Maurice Coughlan, we have a diverse portfolio of coaches, crews, squads and levels of training that are coached by a pyramid of assistant and developing coaches. Globe offers the environment to enhance the lives of local people through coaching.
Our coaches have input in spotting talent, configuring crews, selecting and entering crews for competitions and sustaining our intense training programme.
> Junior Coaching - Following a full DBS check, our Junior programme is coached by a cohort of assistant and developing coaches weeknights and Saturdays.
> Adult Club Coaching - Our coaches have authority over the entries we put into races. We know our success reflects on a coach’s efforts and if our team doesn't put in the effort to create the results, the coach can pull those plans for racing until a later date. We have set races in the calendar that we ask our racing coaches to work towards at this level. Coaches help us achieve the best ranking we can for the depth of squad we have at that time.
> Adult Development Coaching - We look to our coaches to start the journey of knowledge and interest off for our beginners. Taking individuals from level 0 to 60 in the skills of rowing, we have specific coaching for developing beginners into recreational or racing rowers.
We are always on the lookout for more coaches wishing to get involved in our exciting and progressive programme. We are definitely a Club to get involved with at this developing time. Contact us today if you would like to have a conversation about coaching and shaping crews at Globe.

We offer a training ground for developing coaches with funding to become a professional British Rowing Coach.
With commitment to our crews, we can train you for a future career in rowing coaching.
Globe enables our members to take more responsibility for their community through opportunities to peer coach and cox. While this is available to club members we are proud to be providing a growing environment for individuals to become the next generation of leaders in the sport of rowing.

Bring the crew together in an outing and support the fastest crews with our coaches. Experience the excitement of leading a session to provide a workout vibe for a crew and get the best out of rowers.
Globe recognises the vital role that coxes play in the sport of rowing. All of our squads depend on coxes for both training and racing, particularly during the winter season.
Coxes at Globe have access to our land training facilities including our newly refurbished gym and are welcome to participate in land training alongside rowers. During the summer period we encourage coxes to take part in sculling sessions and gain valuable insight/training from our coaches!
Follow our Learn to Cox pathway and become a dedicated rowing cox. We’ll teach you the navigation of the tideway and the calls for regatta racing. Follow a learning process setup through the club that creates confident and rewarding communication and leadership skills.
Every eight or coxed four requires a pair of eyes, ears and a voice of authority to make sure it is safe and working together to go as fast as possible! Like rowing, coxing takes skill and time to master.
We have developed a framework to ensure that your development as a cox is structured and you continue to learn and improve.

Support Globe and make it possible to nurture the lives of local people even further.
Our key financial priorities are:
- Refurbish the fleet across two sites, Greenwich & Newham and increase our opportunities for utilising our fleet and racking, decreasing the pressure on shared resources. Specifically we aim to focus on supporting our Juniors Growth Fund for new lightweight boats for our Junior Members.
- Support for our new Coaches Development Fund - to train the next generation of British Rowing Coaches.
- Facilitate free Learn To Row courses for the unemployed and diversifying the role of British Rowing in our local community.
- Revitalising all the supporting element of our operation to deliver good quality rowing experiences, such as a new lightweight trailer for competitions, refurbishing our footplates and shoes and funding for a paid-for boatmaster.
- Continue the impact of the Alan Mansfield Maintenance Fund.
We are grateful to the donors who made gifts to Globe Rowing Club. The impact these people have had – and will have – on the life of our members is extraordinary.

EVENTS
There are a number of social events put on by the club throughout the year, mainly designed as a means of getting members and friends together away from the normal rowing environment but also as a means of raising much needed funds for the club. As we all know most occasions, especially with rowing, are focused around food. The highlight of the year is usually the annual dinner, which takes place around the beginning of January and is a formal occasion when the club celebrates the rowing season. Apart from this there are quiz nights and race nights put on from time to time and in the summer a barbecue or hog roast. At Christmas there are drinks and the juniors usually hold their own round up of the year party.
We are always looking for new ideas and help so if you would like to get involved please contact the Club Events Officer.
Some of our events:
> Annual Dinner & Dance in January
> Mid-Winter Training Meal in December
> Summer BBQ & Annual President's Races on the Tideway in August
> Post Annual General Meeting Dinner
> Brunch post-training
> End of Regatta day Dinners
> Training Camp Dinners
> Club nights on Wednesdays
THE CLUB CONSTITUTION WILL BE UPLOADED SOON
Globe Rowing club is a community based rowing club in South East London and invites membership applications from any member of the public. The club is affiliated to British Rowing, the governing body of rowing in England, and abides by its rules and requirements with regard to the conduct of the club and its care of its members.
We are a members club, which is to say that the assets of the club are owned by the club as a whole, under its management committee and constitution. The club is entirely run by unpaid volunteers from within the membership.
The club is run by a committee elected from its members. This group is made up entirely of volunteers and oversees all aspects of the Club: its finances, the boathouse, the fleet, managing the gym/clubhouse and, of course, looking after the rowing.
Elections
All members of Globe Rowing Club are eligible to stand for committee positions. Of course, a lot of the same faces are seen on the Committee from year to year, and that is partly because the jobs need some experience (e.g. treasurer or captain), and partly because the members of Committee enjoy what they do. However, we are always looking for new people to join the Committee, not least because one day they will have to take over some of the ‘big jobs’!
The club refurbished its land training facilities in 2020 and now has a freshly equipped gym through the Trafalgar Rowing Centre in Greenwich. The gym includes Concept 2 ergometers, bikes and a fully-equipped free weights room.
The Club has access to a artificial water environment called a Tank that can be used for sculling or sweep in the Royal Docks Watersports Centre in Newham.
The fleet is racked across two sites and consists of 4s and 8s, 2-/xs and 1xs.
Members also have access to the club’s bar through the Trafalgar Rowing Centre in Greenwich.
We take safety seriously at Globe. Our aim is to keep you, other river users and our equipment safe at all times, but to do this we have all members involved in building the safety knowledge. So there are various things we ask members to do before rowing in, coxing, steering or driving any kind of Globe boat.
We have a dedicated safety advisor in the Club. Their role is to understand the requirements of the British Rowing (BR) Code of Practice for Water Safety, to ensure these are displayed prominently and that the rules are observed and implemented. They will make sure that regular Safety Audits take place to ensure that all procedures are up to date and being adhered to in order to ensure the safety of members. Specific questions can be directed to safety@globerowingclub.co.uk.
New members are given a safety awareness briefing, which includes watching the British Rowing Water Safety video and a briefing on the water safety rules. We complete Capsize Drills with members at certain points in the year.
All incidents are reported to the Club Rowing Safety Adviser (CRSA) as soon as possible and the reports completed within 24 hours. This applies whether it’s a full-on crash, a simple capsize or getting washed down by a launch. You should also report poor or dangerous navigation by others even if it didn’t result in an incident – this is part of the Thames Regional Rowing Council agreement with the Port of London Authority. This is important to ensure that Globe and other Tideway clubs are able to improve our practice and learn lessons from incidents and near misses. We report incidents to the Globe Committee, Royal Docks Watersports Centre (when rowing at the Docks) and British Rowing.
Key Club safety documents will be uploaded soon:
Globe RC Safety Summary
Globe RC Club Safety Plan
Globe RC Emergency Action Plan
Richard Vidal, Club Rowing Safety Adviser
THE WELFARE POLICY AND GRIEVANCE POLICY WILL BE UPLOADED SOON
Team Globe takes the welfare of its members seriously and follows the guidelines laid down by British Rowing. For any issues relating to welfare or safeguarding matters for juniors and vulnerable adults please contact welfare officer Karen Mandeville at clubwelfare@globerowingclub.co.uk.
In accordance with the Child Protection Procedures, after every Annual General Meeting, the Management Committee appoints a Club Welfare Officer, who oversees the welfare of juniors as well as adult members where appropriate.
You may also visit www.britishrowing.org for further information on National guidelines regarding welfare in rowing clubs.
Members are what make up Globe. We wouldn’t be who we are without the people investing in the future of this rowing club in South East London. From humble beginnings of workmen from the Docks along the river, Globe has become a powerhouse of a rowing club, supporting aspirations in rowing at any age and level of commitment.
Volunteering at Globe - Throughout the year the club runs a number of events and activities. These events are both critical to the success and standing of the club, and the success of rowing as a sport. For these and other events the club does ask its members for support in running the events and activities. In addition Globe runs a number of socials and parties throughout the year for its members and naturally asks that members provide as much support as possible. This includes preparing the club for parties and help with running the things like the Clubhouse, Boathouses, Gym and rowing logistics.
