About Globe

A Club with History and Heart
Founded in 1923, Globe Rowing Club has grown from humble beginnings into one of London’s most welcoming and ambitious rowing communities. Originally started as a works team on the Thames in Deptford, Globe has since evolved into a thriving club based across two iconic locations:
- Greenwich – our historic base on the Thames.
- Royal Albert Dock – modern watersports facilities in partnership with London Youth Rowing.
This gives our members the unique opportunity to row on both the tidal Thames and the sheltered Docklands.
Coaching and Success

Globe prides itself on high-quality coaching and development. Under the guidance of our qualified and dedicated paid and volunteer coaches, the club has:
This focus on development has delivered real results. In recent years:
Countless members have progressed from complete beginners to racing at national level within just a few seasons.
Our junior women’s squad won the Nina Padwick Trophy at Henley Women’s Regatta (2022) — the first time in the club’s history.
Globe crews across senior and junior have qualified for and raced at Henley Women’s and Henley Royal Regatta historically, and in recent years.
At the British Rowing Championships, our senior crews have earned medals, including a Club Coxless Four title in 2025.
A Welcoming Community

Rowing is demanding, but it’s also social and rewarding. Globe is proud of its friendly, inclusive, and diverse membership. We’re committed to making rowing accessible to all — whether through Learn to Row courses, community taster sessions, or offering a supportive environment to balance sport with study, work, and family life.
Alongside training and racing, our calendar is packed with club socials, events, and celebrations. It’s not just about what happens on the water — it’s about being part of a team.
